The Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Concert Band (MMCCB) was incorporated on March 10, 1994, as a nonprofit corporation with the mission to bring quality band music to the greater Milwaukee area and to offer an enjoyable music experience for community musicians while developing their musical talents.
For over 30 years, the MMCCB has been a home for adult musicians of all ages — from their 20s to their 90s — who share a love of concert band music. Our roster ranges from 55 to 70 members, and no audition is necessary to join.
The band has performed at a wide variety of concert venues throughout the Milwaukee area, including Schwan Hall at Wisconsin Lutheran College, the Milwaukee County War Memorial, the Peck Pavilion of the Marcus Performing Arts Center, Humboldt Park, the Milwaukee County Domes, and the Pabst Theater.
MMCCB has had the privilege of hosting some of the nation's finest ensembles, including the United States Marine Band "The President's Own" from Washington, D.C. and the Dallas Brass, as well as the National Association of Concert Bands. The band has also performed at the Wisconsin State Music Teachers' Convention and the Women Band Directors of America convention.
During the summer months, the band appears on their band wagon throughout the metro Milwaukee area in parades including the Menomonee Falls 3rd of July, Humboldt Park 4th of July, New Berlin 4th of July, Sussex Lions Daze, and the South Milwaukee Heritage Festival Parade.
Ms. Karen Mary Lippert is an honored recipient of the Civic Music Association of Milwaukee certificate of Excellence in Music Education. She is a member of the Wisconsin Music Educators Association and is an inductee into the American School Band Directors’ Association. She is founder and band director celebrating more than forty years at St. John’s Lutheran School – Lannon. She holds a Masters degree in Education and Administration from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Another musical couple, Karen and Dan (percussionist) met while in the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Symphonic Band and the Milwaukee Knights Band.
MMCCB rehearses on Sunday evenings from 6:00–8:00 PM in the band room at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. Rehearsals run from September through early December for the fall and holiday concerts, and from January through May for the spring season and Memorial Day concerts.
